Birding & Wildlife Watch Kit
Activities
This Week
Santa Cruz County’s diverse habitats attract a rich array of wildlife. Located
along the Pacific Flyway, nearly 400 species of birds alone call this area home,
including Marbled Murrelets and Snowy Plovers. Nearby, Elkhorn Slough supports
hundreds of birds that pass through or find permanent refuge there. And wintering
monarch butterflies, migrating whales, elephant seals, dolphins, sea otters and
other marine life can also be seen throughout the county.
